Organic Vases and Bowls
The Freeform Coil bowls designs are created by pressure fusing hand rolled coils over a hump mold. The designs are inspired by my many days on the river or the atmospheric maps I use to draw as a research meteorologist. They work great for berries!
All my functional work is created by hand and each piece is unique. Crackle Vases are created by handling a large freshly extruded tube of soft clay and coaxing it into position while letting the effects of gravity create each unique form. After the bisque fire the vase is covered with 3-5 layers of glaze. In the second firing the earth
elements in the liquid glaze melt and shrink creating the unique crackle exterior or melt and fuse to make the glasslike waterproof interior.
